In 1982, J. Kavaliauskas graduated from Marijampolė Art School, in 1985 - Marijampolė School of Culture, acquired the specialty of a director. For many years, Juozas has been revealing his creative works through painting, sculpture and photography, and has participated in more than 100 joint exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad. Since 2010, he is the member of the Lithuanian Folk Artists’ Union. In recent years, he has been devoting all his free time to promoting the blacksmithing craft. He exhibits blacksmithing works in joint exhibitions, annually participates in various creative plein airs, educational activities, demonstrates the blacksmithing craft during city and town festivals. In 2014, in the regional tour of the republican competition folk art exhibition “Gold Wreath” (Lith. “Aukso vainikas”), Juozas was awarded the first place in the category of applied folk art; in 2015, blacksmithing works - the tops of memorial monuments were certified as a product of national heritage; in 2016, the artist was granted the status of Artist. Juozas is the founder of the international educational blacksmithing plein air “Steel Butterfly” (Lith. “Plieninė plaštakė”) in Druskininkai. His blacksmithing works have found their place in Poland, Russia, Belarus, Latvia, Germany, Spain, Israel, Slovakia, Sweden, France, Ireland, USA, Canada.
